Want to Read saving…. There are certain subject matters, such as setting, theme, moral argument and symbolism that are handled with great detail and precision, in ways that I haven’t encountered in any other writing book.

For someone who gets hired to fix stories and gives a lot of seminars, this guy sure has a lot of trouble communicating effectively. It’s easier to do the tryby along and hit the ground running.

Organizationally, Truby’s many layers within layers of storytelling tfuby be challenging to follow, and the final chapters feel hasty, but there’s good meat here. Writers will come away with an extremely precise set of tools to work with—specific, useful techniques to make the audience care about their characters, and that make their characters grow in meaningful ways. I first read The Anatomy of Story two years ago upon completing the first draft of my novel and it has influenced me tremendously, making me realize how all storytelling aspects are connected with each other, rather than being independent criteria that one must fulfill.

But, that said, it’s definitely a must-read for any beginning fiction writer, and even for people who just want to become more effective readers, this book would be immensely helpful in that regard as well.
